We have made some tours of some local manufacturing companies to show students different areas of how things are made. They now get a better sense of where their machinist skills will fit into that mix. Sun Hydraulics was a great host and showed us 2 facilities where do they do production CNC lathe and milling operations. They are a key member of SAMA – Sarasota and Manatee Manufacturing Association – which helped to push our new Precision Machining Education program. Beautiful facility where everyone has NO job title. Their philosophy is that everyone can grow at any pace and go in any direction within the company. Very clean, organized and of course air-conditioned! ( a big deal down here in Florida ). We saw many unique set up techniques and time management. A learning experience for all. Sun is now hosting some of students in OJT – On the job training.
